Classification of Petrochemical Industry

Petrochemical industry is a huge industrial system, covering many different industries and fields.

According to different classification methods, petrochemical industry can be divided into the following categories:

I.Primary industry: petroleum and petrochemical

II.Secondary industry: oil and gas exploitation, oil service engineering, refining and trade

III.Tertiary industry: 1. Oil and gas exploitation: including exploration, development and production of oil and natural gas. 2. Oil service engineering: including oilfield services, oil and gas and refining engineering, etc. 3. Refining and trade: including refining and chemical industry, oil and petrochemical trade and production and trade of other petrochemical products.

In addition, the petrochemical industry can be subdivided into the following areas:

1. Crude oil exploitation and refining: mainly including oil exploitation, natural gas exploitation, petroleum processing, petrochemical industry and so on.

2. Plastic manufacturing: mainly including the manufacturing of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and other plastics.

3. Rubber manufacturing: mainly including the production and processing of natural rubber and synthetic rubber.

4. Chemical manufacturing: mainly including the production and processing of fertilizers, pesticides, fine chemicals, dyes, coatings and synthetic materials.

5. Petroleum equipment manufacturing: mainly including the manufacturing of oil exploration, drilling, oil production, oil transportation, oil storage and other equipment.

In a word, petrochemical industry is a comprehensive field, involving many industries and fields, and its classification methods are different due to different standards.
